Strategic Dynamics

Tony is an experienced educator, business executive, consultant and entrepreneur. He was for many years a senior executive at Unilever, serving in various roles in Europe and North America. As Chief Economist and Head of Corporate Strategy he led many strategic and organizational initiatives and corporate re-alignments. As chair and founder of Unilever’s Interactive Brand Center he led Unilever’s efforts to move into the digital era. In 2000 Advertising Age recognized him as one of their “i-20’” new economy leaders.

His academic experience spans positions at Wharton, London Business School, the University of Connecticut (where he had a joint appointment in the Medical/Dental School) and Columbia University, where he has taught courses on Global Marketing, Competitive Strategy and the Management of Innovation. He has written extensively on issues of competitive strategy, marketing and the economics of technology. He has been a consultant to multiple Fortune 500 companies, including major technology companies, and has worked with numerous tech startups as well as multiple non-profits. He has also served as a member of Advisory Boards or as a Consultant to the National Science Foundation, the Institutes of Medicine, the National Academies of Science and Engineering, the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, the United Nations, NASA, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Small Business Administration.

He has a B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
