Terms of Use

Protecting your private information is a priority at Burke. The Terms of Use applies to burke.weill.cornell.edu and Burke Neurological Institute and governs data collection and usage. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to Burke include burke.weill.cornell.edu, Burke Neurological Institute. The Burke website provides information about our research, clinics and clinical trials. By using the Burke website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement. 

Collection of your Personal Information

Burke may collect personally identifiable information, such as your name, email, and phone number. We may gather additional personal or non-personal information in the future. 

Information about your computer hardware and software may be automatically collected by Burke. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. This information is used for the operation of the service, to maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding use of the Burke website. This practice occurs on virtually all websites.

Burke encourages you to review the privacy statements of websites you choose to link to from Burke so that you can understand how those websites collect, use and share your information. Burke is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on websites outside of the Burke website. 

Use of your Personal Information

Burke collects and uses your personal information to operate its website(s) and deliver the services you have requested. 

Burke may also use your personally identifiable information to inform you of other products or services available from Burke and its affiliates. Burke may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or of potential new services that may be offered. 

Burke does not sell, rent or lease its patient lists to third parties.

Burke may share data with trusted partners to help perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to Burke, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

Burke may keep track of the websites and pages users visit within Burke, in order to determine what Burke services are the most popular and how to better our website content. This data is used to deliver customized content and advertising within Burke to customers whose behavior indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area. 

Burke will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Burke or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Burke; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Burke, or the public.

Patient Privacy Policy

These terms are separate from the Notice of Privacy Practices. These practices cover the ways we may use and disclose medical information about you.

In areas where there may be conflict between these Terms of Use and the Privacy Practices, the Privacy Practices shall take priority.

Third Party Web Sites

We may offer links to related research and medical Web sites either not part of the Burke or that are not managed by Burke. These links are for informational purposes only. Burke does not endorse and has not verified the accuracy of the information on these sites, and you should not rely on any of the information found on these web sites for purposes of treatment or diagnosis.

We may also offer links to third party web sites that handle specific functions on behalf of Burke, such as event registration or payment processing. Please carefully review any terms of use for these websites, as their terms may differ from those of Burke and apply to any data you may submit through those sites.

Burke does not accept paid placement of third party web content or advertising, or unsolicited content submissions, under any circumstances.

The research and medical information on the Burke web is provided as an information resource only, and is not to be used or relied on for any diagnostic or treatment purposes. This information is not intended to be patient education, does not create any patient-physician relationship, and should not be used as a substitute for professional diagnosis and treatment.
