Postdoctoral Fellow in the Laboratory for Cell Fate Specification and Circuit Development
Job Description
The Laboratory for Cell Fate Specification and Circuit Development at the Burke Neurological Institute, an academic affiliate of Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a talented Postdoctoral Fellow to work at the intersection of developmental and regenerative neuroscience. The Burke Neurological Institute is a unique setting where investigators engaged in fundamental neuroscience research work alongside clinical investigators who work with patients (stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy) with a singular focus to cure neurological disability.
The goal of our lab is to use fundamental neuroscience of the developing nervous system to identify molecular strategies for repairing the diseased or damaged nervous system - such as ALS, as well as following spinal cord injury, and stroke.
The postdoctoral fellow will use precision surgery via ultrasound-guided backscatter microscopy combined with FACS purification and molecular profiling via single cell transcriptomics and epigenomics to identify novel molecules that control nervous system regeneration. These approaches will be combined with mouse genetics, in utero electroporation for gene misexpression, viral-mediated gene transfer, and high-throughput imaging to test gene function, as well as behavioral testing to evaluate motor function.
Qualifications
- Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field in the life sciences at the time of employment.
- A background in Neuroscience as well as directly related lab experience in molecular biology techniques (gene misexpression, gene profiling, anatomical circuit-level investigation, and/or mouse surgical experience will be considered as a plus).
- Some familiarity / experience with coding, though not required, will also be considered an asset.
- Strong communication, demonstrated organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to carry out responsibilities in a collaborative team environment are essential.
- The position also requires strong mentoring skills to supervise, guide and mentor students and technicians in the lab.
- All levels of previous postdoctoral experience will be considered up to a maximum of 5 years of prior experience.
Compensation
Salary range: $56,484 to $63,852
How to Apply
To apply, interested candidates should complete the online application, upload a cover letter, a resume/CV, and include three contacts for references.
