Mary Kate Wold
Since 2011, Mary Kate Wold has been the CEO and President of the Church Pension Group (CPG), a pension and financial services company that serves the worldwide Episcopal Church and is headquartered in New York City. Ms. Wold is also a member of the CPG Board of Trustees. Ms. Wold has held leadership positions in the corporate, legal, and government sectors, including sitting on the boards of numerous organizations.
The Church Pension Group was incorporated in 1914 and manages an investment portfolio of $14 billion. CPG serves Episcopal clergy and lay employees and their families, as well as Episcopal churches and institutions, through the provision of pension benefits, retirement planning, life and disability insurance, health benefits, property and casualty insurance, and book and music publishing.
Prior to joining CPG, Ms. Wold was Senior Vice President, Finance, and a Principal Corporate Officer of Wyeth, one of the world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical companies, leading its Treasury, Tax, Procurement, Enterprise Risk Management, and Business Process Outsourcing functions.
As a member of the Wyeth Investment Committee, Ms. Wold was a fiduciary of that company’s multi-billion-dollar defined benefit pension plan, other benefits and health plans, and union pension plans. She oversaw a reassessment of Wyeth’s global insurance programs, introduced the addition of alternative investments to its pension portfolio, and designed and implemented Wyeth’s corporate-wide enterprise risk management system. Sitting on numerous executive oversight committees, she provided direction across a spectrum of Wyeth’s business and finance operations.
Prior to joining Wyeth, Ms. Wold was a partner and chaired the tax practice group of Shearman & Sterling, one of the world’s leading law firms. She specialized in advising the firm’s global clients on the tax aspects of cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Earlier in her career, she served in the United States Department of the Treasury as a member of the Office of International Tax Counsel, where her accomplishments included negotiating the first income tax treaty between the United States and China.
Ms. Wold has served on numerous boards of both for-profit and non-profit organizations. She currently is a board member, sits on the executive and audit committees, and chairs the investment committee of The Jackson Laboratory, a biomedical research institution dedicated to the discovery of genomic solutions to human disease. She is a board member of the Burke Neurological Institute, a research organization affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine, and is a member of its executive and HR committees. She chairs the board of the Church Benefits Association, an industry trade group of financial and benefits institutions. She sits on the board of the historic Trinity Church Wall Street and its investment committee, which oversees its $6 billion investment portfolio, and on the executive committee of the board of the Church Divinity School of the Pacific at Berkeley, an affiliate of Trinity. Previously, Ms. Wold served on, and ultimately chaired, the board of Unilife Corporation, a publicly-traded medical device/drug delivery innovation and manufacturing company, and served on its audit and strategic partnerships committees.
Ms. Wold is a member of the Women’s Forum of New York, Women Corporate Directors, and DirectWomen, an organization of women lawyers on corporate boards.
A native of North Dakota, Ms. Wold attended Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, from which she graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in English and Theater and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. She holds an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University.
