John Tognino
In 2020, John Tognino and Elizabeth J. McCormack founded and Co-chaired the Burke Neurological Institute Advancement Council. Formerly John was EVP and Head of Global Sales and Member Relations for the NASDAQ Stock Market. Previously he was President and CEO of the Security Traders Association and the STA Foundation. Prior to joining STA, he was the EVP of Capital Markets and Trading at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. He has been associated with The Financial Services Industry for over 50 years. He spent over 35 of those years with Merrill Lynch and at the time of his retirement from Merrill Lynch in 1993 he was a Managing Director for Global Equities. From 1988 to 1991 he lived in London, England and was Managing Director for International Equities within Merrill Lynch and a member of the Merrill Lynch Europe and Middle East Executive Committee.
In 1981, he was the President of the Securities Traders Association of New York. In 1986 he became Chairman of the Securities Traders Association. Mr. Tognino was a member of the NASDAQ Stock Market Board of Directors from 1984 through 1987 and again in 1995 – 1996.
Mr. Tognino graduated Fordham University, FCLS ‘75 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics; Summa Cum Laude. He completed 8 years as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of Fordham University and was a member of the Board of Trustees from 2000 to 2012. He currently enjoys Trustee Emeritus Status on the Fordham University Board and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Arts in 2013.
A native of the Bronx, NY, he grew up in the shadow of Fordham University. He was a Trustee and Senior Vice Chairman of St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx. He was a past Chairman of the Board of the Union Community Health Center (UCHC), also in the Bronx. From 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the Board of Directors of The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and has rejoined the MDA Board in 2013. In addition, he was a member of the Columbia-Presbyterian College of Physicians and Surgeons Advisory Health Council and Co-Chairman of their Neurosciences Committee. He also served as a Member of the Westchester Medical Center Foundation Board, and various Advisory Boards within Fordham University. He was a co-founder of a multicultural orientation service provider that assists American educational institutions in producing future leaders by introducing international students to various aspects of the American Culture. In 2014 he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Security Traders Association.
In 2012 he was awarded the President’s Medal and The Founders Award from Fordham University. In 2002 Mr. Tognino was inducted as an honorary member of Alpha Sigma Nu, The Jesuit Honor Society. In 1997 he received the Chicago Stock Exchange’s “Lifetime Achievement Award.” He was a past recipient of Traders Magazine “Trader of the Year Award” and selected in 1987 as Equities Magazine’s “Equities Achiever of the Year.” He was also a recipient of Fordham University’s College of Liberal Studies “Distinguished Service Award” and Babies and Children’s Hospital of New York “Distinguished Service Award.” In addition, he has a long history of involvement in other education, community, and philanthropic organizations, most notably serving on the Ardsley, NY School District Board of Trustees from 1977 to 1985.
