Andres Leonardo Carrano
Andres Leonardo Carrano, Ph.D. is the Dean of the School of Engineering at Fairfield University and a full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Previously, he held administrative and academic positions at Auburn University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Georgia Southern University, and Universidad Catolica Andres Bello (Venezuela).
He was the Founding Director of the Toyota Production Systems Laboratory at RIT, a co-Director of the 3D Printed Bio-Surfaces Laboratory at Auburn University, and was instrumental in the development and delivery of the Master program in Sustainable Engineering at RIT, the first of its kind in the U.S. His main area of research pursuit is concerned with the design of complex surface topologies achieved with 3D printing to incentivize colonization of benthic algal biofilms, mainly for water remediation.
Dr. Carrano has held visiting faculty appointments at universities in Japan and Turkey, was awarded a NASA Fellow appointment at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and has served as a Fulbright specialist in Italy, He also served as the President of the College-Industry Council in Material Handling Education during 2014-2015, and an executive board member between 2008-2019.
