Emeritus Professor of Neuroscience and Zoology UBC and Strategic Nonprofit Advisor

Abstract

Dr. Jane Roskams was a professor of neuroscience at UBC for over 25 yrs before spending the last decade working in the nonprofit sector in Open Brain Science. An advisor to several foundations and nonprofits, she is currently advising 4YouandMe on brain-based disorders, and Convergent Research and Renaissance Philanthropy on developing new philanthropy-funded nonprofit structures like FutureHouse and  Focused Research Organizations to accelerate global scientific progress. Jane will present a forward-facing overview of how our understanding of “Use Cases” for research can drive Impact of different kinds and fuel engagement in the alternative nonprofit funding landscape (such as ARPA’s and Foundations). The session will include an interactive “panel” discussion as to how everyone’s research can be packaged and messaged in a different context, to help diversify funding and partner more broadly to drive research more effectively to the frontline.
