Mechanisms and Therapeutic Targeting of Lipid Homeostasis: From Lipid Droplets to Ferroptosis
Speakers
Abstract
Dr. James Olzmann will present recent discoveries from his laboratory that advance understanding of cellular lipid homeostasis. His seminar will explore mechanisms governing lipid droplet formation and function, the oxidative lipid damage that triggers ferroptosis, and the cellular pathways that confer resistance to this form of cell death. Using genetic screening approaches, his group has identified key regulators of lipid metabolism and oxidative stress responses, revealing potential therapeutic targets. Building on these insights, his team is developing small-molecule tools and therapeutic strategies to modulate these pathways. These findings illuminate fundamental principles of lipid biology with broad implications for diseases driven by lipid dysregulation and oxidative stress.
