On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush. When signing the landmark legislation, he proclaimed, ”Let the shameful wall of exclusion finally come tumbling down.” The ADA was hailed as landmark legislation when it was passed in 1990. There has been much progress, yet there is more progress needed. BNI strives to be a beacon of hope to those with disabilities. This event celebrated our progress and highlight ways that society must grow to understand and nurture the voices of people with disabilities.

Enjoy this powerful essay "Intersection of Visible & Invisible Disability: Life with Cerebral Palsy & Metastatic Breast Cancer" from Dr. Kathleen Friel on the challenges of living with disability and ways to become part of the solution.
